We need Heroes. We need someone we can look up to, to set a standard that we try to achieve.
In 1992 over ½ of the world’s brightest minds, all of them Nobel Prize winning scientists, released a document called the “World Scientists Warning to Humanity” They warned that we are on a destructive path that threatens the survival of all human beings.
This may singularly may be the most important document of our time… and it didn’t even make mention on North American media. They considered it "not newsworthy".
These scientists said that we may have as little as 10 years to avoid a reaching tipping points leading to disaster. The document outlines recommendations on what to do to avoid this and few are listening.
Humans will go extinct like every other species. This is normal. The average time that a species exists is about 2 to 4 million years. We have only been here for 150,000 years. We are a very demanding predator. Whenever there is a crisis in an ecosystem it is always to top predator that suffers the most. Humans are at the very top of the food chain and so by altering the world in the way that we are, we are the most vulnerable to extinction.
We are playing as if there will be something or someone to come to our rescue. In the past we depended on God’s and supernatural forces to save us from the great unknowns. Now we have become very powerful and no longer look as much to divine intervention, rather we look to SCIENCE to save us. But scientists, although while they provide very powerful insights, I don’t think that scientists know enough to be able to rescue us from the kinds of problems we have created for ourselves. It is the Earth herself…Mother Nature that will be the source for our survival, IF we don’t wound nature to such an extent that she is no longer as resilient and forgiving.
